Low Income Students In This City Get Free School Supplies
For most families, going back to school is an exciting time for both students and their parents. But it's also a worrisome time for low-income families who now have to struggle with the problem of where to get the money to pay for school supplies and other necessities. One Denver non-profit organization is helping by giving students free school supplies.
Non-profit helps students in Denver
According to Jessica Dunbar, executive director of Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics, a non-profit organization that provides health care to over 22,000 children in Colorado, 85 percent of students are from low-income families. Although the organization is primarily focused on helping children with medical, dental, and behavioral health care, they realize how stressful it is for low-income families to pay for school supplies as well. So they are offering 100 children free backpacks that are filled with school supplies.
Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics were founded in 1996 to provide health care to needy children up to 21 years old and families from all backgrounds. They pride themselves on providing medical care to families regardless of their ability to pay. This year, the organization is offering even more help to low-income students with backpacks containing free school supplies.
Kids Rock Back to School
The program is called Kids Rock Back to School. Children who come into the clinic for well child checks and sports physicals or to get their immunizations are eligible for the free backpacks.
