There is no reason why low-income students shouldn't have the benefit of a good education. Good education means, in part, helping disadvantaged students overcome economical obstacles and prepare to further their education by going to college. And there are some excellent high schools around the country that are proving it can be done.

These top 10 high schools have been recognized by Newsweek Magazine as doing an excellent job in preparing low-income students for college. One measure is how well they work with students in attaining state assessment scores that are at or above average. Here are the 10 schools that received recognition, along with their college readiness scores, high school graduation rates, and college bound rates.

It should be noted that these schools are having the most success with low-income students in school districts across the country where the poverty level is as high as 98.6 percent.
