Low income housing is becoming more and more important to people who make less than 80 percent of the local median income level (that's considered low income!). But as home prices continue to increase, it is getting harder to supply enough housing for our nation's low income residents.
These 10 cities have been identified as doing the best job in providing low income housing:

It should be noted that no U.S. city is able to provide even half, or 50 percent, of the housing needed for low-income residents. But these 10 cities come close.

1. Charleston, West Virginia – 45.1 percent
2. Texarkana, Texas – 43.5 percent
3. Boston, Massachusetts – 38.2 percent
4. Monroe, Louisiana – 37.1 percent
5. Cambridge, Massachusetts – 35.8 percent
6. Spartanburg, South Carolina – 34.1 percent
7. Albany, Oregon – 33.7 percent
8. Hoboken, New Jersey – 32.1 percent
9. West Palm Beach, Florida – 31.8 percent
10. Pensacola, Florida – 31.5 percent

The ranking came from Rent to Own Labs, a company that specializes in helping homebuyers find rent-to-own homes. The company used the most recent data from HUD provided by the U.S. Census Bureau.
