Bill Gates Says Technology Will End Most of the World's Poverty By 2030

Bill Gates talking to poor African

Bill Gates predicts that the lives of poor people around the world will change dramatically over the next 15 years. By 2030, Gates predicts that people in poor countries will experience significant breakthroughs in poverty. On what does he base these predictions? Technology of course.

The role technology will play in ending poverty

In the recent 2015 Gates Annual Letter, Gates explained that new advances in technology will benefit the poor through better health, nutritious food, and the ability to live longer lives. In addition, new innovation will benefit the poor financially through digital banking that will give the poor access to financial services ranging from interest-bearing savings accounts to credit to insurance.

Other areas that will greatly improve for the poor include:
  • Health: cutting the child death rate in half, and reducing by two thirds the number of women who die in childbirth
  • Education: advancing education opportunities through online learning
  • Food: innovations in farming will enable farmers in Africa to increase crop productivity by 50 percent

Why Gates' predictions are reliable

Not only have Bill and Melinda Gates spent years travelling to poor countries to observe first-hand what they need to live healthy lives, they have also poured money into their foundation to improve the lives of the poor. In addition, no one knows technology better than Bill Gates, and he is using this to a positive advantage in order to changes the lives of poor people everywhere.

Remember, it was just 40 years ago that Bill Gates predicted that technology and the use of personal computers would change our lives forever. Through The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, they are putting that same passion into helping the poor. "We want to break the cycle of poverty," Melinda Gates said. "And if we all work together, we bet it can be done."

We're betting on it, too!
