How This Chicago Chef is Helping to Feed 52,000 Homeless People

Quentin Love, chef from Chicago

Quentin Love is from Chicago and knows that 1 out of every 3 people go hungry -- every day. So, he decided to do something about it, something that has resulted in feeding over 50,000 residents during the past two years.

Love is 'sharing the love'

Love is a chef who owns the Turkey Chop Gourmet Grill restaurant in Chicago’s West Side. He sees firsthand the hungry who are in need of a good meal. So, every Monday he closes his restaurant from 1-3:00 p.m. to focus on feeding the poor. During these hours, Love converts his restaurant into a soup kitchen, serving free meals to people in need.

But that's not all. Recently, Love won $36,000 competing on the Food Network's "Guy's Grocery Games Veterans Holiday Showdown." He is donating half of the proceeds to support the soup kitchen. The other half he is donating to the United Service Organization, which helps military service members and their families.

His reasons

Quentin Love understands what poor families in Chicago need, and he wants to help. As he explained it, “When you give someone a good meal, to show them love, you could be stopping them on the way to do something to hurt themselves or somebody else.”
