Singer/Songwriter Jewel Donates Her New Song "Home To Me" to Public Housing

Singer and songwriter Jewel just released a song called "Home To Me" and is donating the proceeds to public housing. She recently sang the song live in Los Angeles for public housing administrators and residents and is donating the song to the ReThink public housing initiative.

Public housing close to Jewel's heart

ReThink is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about public housing and the benefits it brings to individuals, families and communities. Their public housing initiatives are close to heart with Jewel, who was homeless herself. At age 18, she found herself unable to pay her rent and lived in her car, which was then stolen. She turned to music for comfort and was later discovered.

Music contest

Recently, Jewel asked Americans to share stories about 'why housing matters' to them and ran a ReThink: Why Housing Matters song contest. The public voted on entries and one grand prize winner was selected. Jewel's new song, "Home To Me" actually chose the title of her new song from one of the submitted compositions. Literally hundreds of people shared their stories.
